The 2027 Toyota GR86 Has Arrived at Terrace Toyota

By the Terrace Toyota Team | Terrace, BC

The 2027 Toyota GR86 is now on sale in Canada, and it lands at Terrace Toyota as one of the most engaging cars you can put in your driveway for under forty thousand dollars. This is a purpose-built, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe with a naturally aspirated boxer engine, an available six-speed manual, and a Torsen limited-slip differential. For 2027, Toyota has sharpened the details that matter most to drivers, and we think the roads around the Skeena Valley are exactly where it belongs.

Whether you have been waiting years for the right two-door or you are cross-shopping your first sports car, here is everything that is new for the 2027 GR86, what it costs in Canada, and how to reserve one at our Terrace showroom.

What's New for the 2027 GR86

The GR86 was already a driver's favourite, so Toyota focused its 2027 updates on refinement rather than reinvention. The changes are the kind you feel from the seat, not just read on a spec sheet:

A smoother, more linear throttle. Revised throttle calibration makes the 2.4-litre boxer respond more progressively, so it is easier to be precise with your inputs on a winding road or when you are rolling on power out of a corner.

A crisper gearbox. Toyota widened the shifter chamfer by roughly half a millimetre to improve the feel of the five-to-four downshift. It is a small mechanical change with a real payoff for anyone who rows their own gears.

A more driver-centric cabin. The interior gets updated treatments and a new Cockpit Red option on Premium grades, pairing black Ultrasuede with red leather accents for a properly sporting look.

New Thunder paint. A new solid grey exterior colour, Thunder, shifts subtly in changing light and joins the Premium palette.

Expanded active safety and convenience tech. The 2027 car carries a broader suite of active safety and connected features, which we break down further below.

As Toyota Canada VP Steve Pilkey put it, the GR86 is "the product of the skill and expertise of our GAZOO Racing team." That racing DNA is still the whole point of this car.

Under the Hood: The 2.4L Boxer

The heart of the GR86 is the FA-24, a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre four-cylinder boxer engine. There is no turbo lag to wait out and no artificial power curve to manage; you get an honest, rev-happy engine that rewards you for using the whole tachometer.

184 lb-ftTorque at 3,700 rpm
6-speedManual or automatic w/ paddles
RWDRear-wheel drive
Torsen LSDLimited-slip differential

The low, flat boxer layout keeps the centre of gravity down near the pavement, which is a big part of why the GR86 changes direction so eagerly. Choose the six-speed manual for the purest experience, or the six-speed automatic with steering-wheel paddle shifters if your drive includes daily commuting or Highway 16 traffic. Either way, the standard Torsen limited-slip differential helps put the power down cleanly when you get back on the throttle.

What each trim gives you

GR86 (base). The foundation is far from basic: 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated side mirrors, a digital gauge cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen with six-speaker audio, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

GR86 Premium (manual). Steps up to 18-inch alloys wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires, a duck-bill rear spoiler, leather and Alcantara-style sport seats, heated front seats, aluminum sport pedals, an eight-speaker audio system, Adaptive Front Lighting, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

GR86 Premium (automatic). Adds the paddle-shift automatic plus a fuller driver-assistance package, including full-speed radar cruise control, a pre-collision system with throttle management, lane departure warning with sway warning, lead-vehicle start alert, and Remote Connect service.

Colours and Cabin

The 2027 palette lets you keep it stealthy or make a statement. Base cars can be ordered in Raven, Track bRED, and Halo. Premium grades add Pavement, the new-for-2027 Thunder grey, and the striking Trueno Blue - the colour you will see throughout the gallery below.

Inside, Premium buyers can choose the new Cockpit Red interior, which blends black Ultrasuede with red leather accents, or a classic all-black treatment with a cast-iron finish on the switches and knobs. Every GR86 keeps the low-slung, wraparound driving position that makes the car feel like an extension of you.

Safety and Connected Technology

Toyota's Star Safety System is standard across the lineup and bundles Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, Brake Assist, Smart Stop Technology, and Hill Start Assist Control. Seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag, and a tire-pressure monitoring system are also standard.

Beyond that, the GR86 offers an expanded active-safety suite - pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with sway warning, lead-vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams - with the most complete package arriving on the Premium automatic. Connected services include a three-year trial of Safety Connect with an Emergency Assistance Button and a three-year trial of Remote Connect, which lets you lock, unlock, locate, and (on the automatic) remote-start your car from your phone.

Built for Highway 16 and the Skeena Valley

A rear-wheel-drive coupe with a low centre of gravity and a limited-slip differential is right at home on the roads around Terrace. The sweeping curves of Highway 16, the runs out toward Kitimat and Prince Rupert, and a clear-weather morning through the Skeena Valley are exactly the kind of driving the GR86 was built for. It is light, communicative, and endlessly fun at legal speeds - you do not need a racetrack to enjoy it.

One practical note for northern BC drivers: the Premium trims ship on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires, which are fantastic when it is warm and dry but are not made for our winters. If you plan to drive year-round, budget for a dedicated set of winter tires on separate wheels. Our parts and service team can set you up with the right package, and we are happy to store your seasonal set. Ask us about winter-tire options when you come in.
